- Everyone is creative: We are constantly creating things, whether it is the art we have always dreamed of, an innovative new product, or simply a delicious meal for loved ones, we bring new things into the world all the time.
- Organizations and communities needs creative people: Creativity, the ability to see things from multiple viewpoints, generate new ideas, and bring those ideas into being is what will allow us to solve our most pressing organizational and global problems. It is only through a re-imagining of what is possible will we be able to create bright new futures.
- Diversity supports creativity: Being exposed to diverse experiences, ideas, and people is a powerful tool for increasing creative capacity. In order to foster diverse environments where people are able to work and learn across differences, we must honor the wide range of histories and experiences people come with while trying to engage inequalities within our organizations and society at large.
- Safety, expression, and connection are paramount: As humans we have an innate need to express ourselves. In order to foster creativity, we need to build safe spaces where we can explore, take risks and share our learning with others.
- Know what you want, but have many ways to get there: Without clear goals you can never know what success means to you. However, all to often we get stuck thinking there is only one way to achieve our goals. Instead, we should generate multiple action plans, seeing each one as an experiment designed to help us learn more about how to accomplish our goals.
